THE CALLING
by Jessa Richer and Shira Bodnar
Feb 25 – Mar 2, 2025 @ The Annex Theatre
The Calling by Jessa Richer and Shira Bodnar ran from February 25th to March 2nd at The Annex Theatre in Toronto.
Performances of this original Canadian musical are best suited for audiences aged 6 and up, but will be enjoyed by kids and adults of any age. Running approximately 70 minutes, The Calling promises to be a playful, optimistic, and energetic production by Makeshift Company.
The Calling is an original musical fable about what happens when the environment takes revenge on humans after they abuse their power. The Child, The Fish, and The Ocean must all face their own wrongdoing and find a way to move forward — together. The Calling is about what could be possible if we have the courage to see the world with the optimism of children.
In August of 2023, The Calling had a workshop production independently line produced by Ally Chozik and Jessa Richer. With a largely reworked script, all new arrangements, and a live band, Makeshift is eager to remount this charming musical in 2025.
The 2025 Production of The Calling by Makeshift Company received 5 nominations for BroadwayWorld’s Toronto Theatre Awards in the following Categories:

Best Theatre for Young Audiences (Professional)
Best Musical (Non-Professinal)
